Malcom Floyd out for fantasy Super Bowl week

The Chargers have cooled off and have not been helping many people win their leagues this season. One of their better WR3 assets will be lost for the remainder of the season. Malcom Floyd was put on IR – but dynasty leaguers will be happy to hear that his injury was minor. It simply wouldn’t have healed in the two weeks remaining on the schedule for San Diego.

A league source tells the Union-Tribune San Diego that Malcom Floyd’s (injured reserve) ankle injury is only a sprain, not a break.

Floyd is a solid WR3 in most formats. The Chargers need to invest in their offensive line in a major way this off-season. If they do, the passing game might see a resurgence in 2013.

Ryan Mathews will be ready for next season

Many experts around the fantasy football world banked on a break out season for Ryan Mathews. Unfortunately, his string of seasons lost due to injury continued. He did nothing to break the perception that he has been bitten hard by the injury bug.

Ryan Mathews (collarbone, injured reserve) is expected to be 100 percent “well in time” for the beginning of the Chargers’ off-season program.

Mathews has a world of talent but you need to stay on the field in order for that to be realized. The Chargers were a flop this season – and Mathews’ inability to contribute is a major factor. Look for San Diego to look long and hard at a backup plan. Mathews dynasty value gets a tick upward based on the fact that he will be ready for next season – but it is hard to recommend investing in a player that misses more fantasy games than he contributes to.

Roddy White expected to play in Week 15

Roddy White owners have been holding their collective breath this week after White’s injury near the end of the game in Week 14. White appears likely to play and will see a favorable matchup against a beat up secondary of the Giants.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that “it looks good” for Roddy White (knee, questionable) to play on Sunday against the Giants.

White represents a boom or bust player in Week 15. A potential WR1 in most formats that could post 20+ points should he stay on the field, but the real risk is present of a tweak to his knee that would send him to the sideline early.

Patriots continue to shuffle WRs

The spot opposite of Brandon Lloyd has been a revolving door for New England this season. That shuffle will continue this week. Stallworth’s season will be ended and it appears that New England will resign Deion Branch.

The New England Patriots placed veteran wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday, one day after he caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Brady in the team’s 42-14 win over the Houston Texans.

The Patriots need to draft a player that can hold down this position. A tall, rangy deep threat to keep defenses from crowding the middle of the field would make the top scoring offense even more dangerous. The Pats have had great luck drafting impact players for nearly every other position over the past four years – but they have struck out when trying to find an outside WR.

Bryce Brown to get at least one more week

Bryce Brown lit the fantasy world on fire for two weeks – and dropped a total dud on his owners last week. He is going to be tough to trust in the most important games of the year, but for owners that want his high upside – he will start again on Thursday night.

Philadelphia running back Bryce Brown has been all but guaranteed to get the start Week 15 on Thursday night against Cincinnati. The Eagles have basically ruled starter LeSean McCoy out due to his concussion and that means the carries will belong to Brown against the Bengals

Rashard Mendenhall suspended for one game

Rashard Mendenhall appears to be punching his ticket out of town in Pittsburgh. His odd journey continued today with a suspension from the team:

Mendenhall, recently demoted to third string, has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. The one-game ban will cost Mendenhall more than $41,000.

Jon Dwyer will continue to be the starter in Pittsburgh. Mendenhall is safe to drop in all formats. His dynasty value is mediocre at best.

Bryce Brown to start in Week 14

The Eagles, who have nothing to play for in 2012, will allow Bryce Brown to carry the mail again in Week 14. They would gain nothing by rushing their superstar runner back from injury – and they would be wise to see exactly what they have in Brown.

Still in Phase 4 of the concussion program, LeSean McCoy and Michael Vick have been ruled out for Week 14.

The Eagles will face a tough rushing defense in Week 14 – but after two incredible performances – Bryce Brown is a must start.

Cecil Shorts will not play in Week 14

Cecil Shorts has been one of the fastest rising fantasy wide outs over the past several weeks. Unfortunately for his fantasy owners, he will miss the game.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (concussion) and RB Rashad Jennings (concussion) have been ruled out for Week 14 versus the Jets.

His loss should hurt Justin Blackmon. Without a reliable target opposite him, Blackmon will be doubled all day long.

James Starks may be done for the year

I hope you didn’t have high hopes for James Starks in Week 14. His flame has appeared to have burnt out for the 2012 season.

An NFL source tells ESPN Milwaukee James Starks suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s win over the Vikings that could be season-ending.

This should drop the bulk of the work back on Alex Green and the rest of the middling backfield for the Packers. Cedric Benson was ruled out for the year last week – so this is unwelcome news for the recently hot Packers offense.
